SERENADE MUSIC SCHOOL
P R O G R A M S
At Serenade, we love music. Every kind of music. And we encourage students to open their ears and broaden their musical horizons.
PIANO students who desire a more formal education in the classics are given the option of preparing for Royal Conservatory of Music examinations and festival competitions. We are equally at ease providing students with instruction in popular styles. Many of our students enjoy exploring various genres of music, and we are happy to guide them on their unique journey.
We encourage all our students to find their own VOICE, figuratively and literally! Singing is infectious, liberating, and rewarding. Just about everyone at Serenade sings, and we are all the better for it. Aside from private voice instruction, Serenade offers classes in ensemble-singing and sight-singing.
To help students come to grips with the inner-workings of music, Serenade offers private and group instruction in ACADEMICS:
music rudiments (theory), harmony, music history, musicianship, and music appreciation. Individuals who don’t play an instrument can still enjoy learning more about the music they enjoy.
Students PERFORM in two Serenade shows every year (an end-of-season recital and a themed event such as a musical) and Serenade organizes a variety of activities throughout the year including field trips and master classes.
Lessons may be taught either IN ENGLISH OR FRENCH.Lessons are taught IN ENGLISH OR FRENCH.
The teaching space is a HOME-STUDIO in the Leslieville area of Toronto. The space is large, bright, and attractive; the environment is at once comfortable and professional; and the piano (which all students play) is a beautiful Kawai grand.
The TEACHER is Michelle Garon, Hons. B. Mus. (piano, fortepiano, music history). Michelle created the Serenade Music School in 1992 and has taught talented musicians for over twenty years. Some of the students who learned middle C at her side are now enrolled in university music programs and pursuing careers in music! In addition to her work at Serenade, Michelle also works as a COLLABORATIVE PIANIST, accompanying vocalists and instrumentalists alike.
Serenade welcomes students of all levels and musical interests, though they must be 6 years or older and able to read English or French. Visit our REGISTRATION page for more information.
